PJ Flowers Ltd is a flower farm started in 1981 as Wetfarm Ltd, which at the time was a mixed farm with the main farming systems incorporating horticulture and animal husbandry. In 2004 the farm was rebranded as PJ Flowers Ltd.

Due to good soils, suitable climate, proximity to Nairobi and a well-developed infrastructure in form of irrigation systems, power supply and a cold storage system, the farm’s management decided to diversify into floriculture.

We specialize in summer flowers and High value fillers with the main market being European Union Countries, an average market share in Middle East and consolidated consignments to the US and Australia.

• Mission - Our primary mission is to develop the agricultural industry by empowering farmers with the right knowledge that will allow them to make agribusiness a viable business, a business that is pertinent to our economy. Our secondary mission is to globally promote PJ Flowers products. This is done by practicing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), which includes but not limited to providing our staff with the right environment to perform their duties, constantly engage with our customers, know their needs and meeting the standards required by the market.

• Objective - To produce and market a product that attracts the global market. In order to do so we have partnered with local small- scale farmers who we work with in producing exceptional products, thus exposing their products in the global market, increasing our presence in the global market and as a result increasing our sales.

• Vision -To attain the world market and make PJ Flowers products the number one choice globally.

• Certification -We are Silver Certified Member of Kenya Flower Council (KFC). This certification is bench marked to International Standards such as EURO-GAP & GLOBAL GAP.

Services

FARM MANAGEMENT

• Training farmers on how to manage their farms from cultivation to trade.

• Train on new innovations on how to repair damaged soil, adapting affordable irrigation systems, water harvesting and prevention of soil erosion. We also offer consultancy on financial accountability, record keeping and documentation.

• Visit customer’s farms to assess the level of requirements needed in order to achieve the end goal.

PROMOTION OF SMALL-SCALE GROWERS

• As one of our core objectives, our main service is to link up with small scale farmers, putting emphasis on the rural farmer to promote, develop and advance their agricultural and environmental activities which in the long run will raise economic status of the farmer and society in general at the grass root level.

Elizabeth Thande is the Managing Director of PJ Flowers Ltd.  She is a member of EAWiBP and serves as an Executive committee member of the Platform. She is also a member of the following associations:

• African Women Agribusiness Network –KE- (AWAN-KE) (Retired Chairperson)

• Kenya Professional Association of Women in Agriculture and Environment. –Planning Committee Member

• Member of the Business Ireland Kenya- connecting Kenyan business companies with Irish Business Networks.

She has a vast experience in the Floriculture and Horticulture Industry; as a result she has served as a Board Member in various organizations such as:

• Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya-FPEAK

• Kenya Bureau of Standards- KEBs

• National Council of Women of Kenya.-NCWK

• Horticulture Crop Development Authority. HCDA

Through her hard work and passion for the agribusiness industry she received The International Alliance For Women(TIAW) 2013  Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the 2014 Enterprising Women of the Year Award. 

She has also mentored many young women in agribusiness giving them practical knowledge on how to run sustainable businesses.
